Residents in the Richmond and Clarence valleys are being urged by State Member for Clarence, Richie Williamson to stay informed about the latest weather forecasts as the region braces for potential severe weather in the coming days.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Flood Watch for all coastal rivers in the Northern Rivers and Mid North Coast, including those in the Richmond and Clarence valleys. Forecasters are closely monitoring Tropical Cyclone Alfred, with current predictions indicating the system will move westward by Tuesday or Wednesday. This weather event has the potential to bring strong winds, coastal erosion, and a high risk of riverine flooding.
Mr Williamson is encouraging residents to take early precautions and remain alert to the developing situation.
“All residents should stay across the latest forecasts and prepare for what could be a very wet and windy second half of the week. Now is the time to be alert to the possibility of significant weather, but not alarmed,” Mr Williamson said.
He also acknowledged the potential emotional impact of these warnings on those who experienced the devastating 2022 floods.
“Many are still recovering from the 2022 floods, and I understand that these warnings can be a difficult reminder of past events. I want to reassure the community that the situation is being closely monitored,” Mr Williamson said.
Residents and communities with flood plans are encouraged to review them now in case they need to be activated.
The Bureau of Meteorology will provide an updated Flood Watch at 2:00 PM on Monday, 3 March 2025.
